Got a job offer at a machine company that manufactures medical prosthesis. Going to start on June 4th, evening shift (3PM-1AM). The workweek is four days long, and overtime will be irregular depending on demand.
It also represents a massive pay bump over my current job, from $13/hr to $16/hr. That means if I don’t blow this, this could become the first step to becoming a career machinist, and I am hoping to utterly knock it out of the park like Ken Griffey Jr. crushing a home run into the ceiling at the Kingdome.
And that translates to more money for my car~! Whoo. Wish me luck, y’all.

Congrats. Four-day workweeks are awesome. It is one of the better perks of working for the university. Instead of working, I play golf every Monday.

Career machinist sounds like a good way to go. Just think of all the new car-modifying knowledge you’d aquire...

More like, I’d eventually be able to machine replacement parts myself .
Imagine being able to machine replacement cylinders, crankshafts, rods, everything. That would be awesome, but I’d have to get my own CNC mill for that, or get permission from the company to use one of their machines during an ebb in contracts (which is bloody unlikely, that’s money lost for them).
At the very least, I plan to design and machine my own drive shaft for
